James E. Scully
Passed away on October 27, 2007
James Edward Scully, 86, died October 27, 2007 at Hospice Savannah, Inc. He was born in Lexington, Kentucky, son of the late Edward B. and Sally Henry Scully. Mr. Scully was a graduate of Lexington Latin School and attended the University of Kentucky.
He worked for the F.B.I. in Washington, DC and then entered the United States Marine Corp serving as a bomber pilot in the Pacific Theatre. After the war, Mr. Scully worked for the State of Kentucky Department of Transportation and later in management and sales with Consolidated Freightways Company and retired from Schwerman Trucking Company. Mr. Scully volunteered for St. Joseph’s Hospital and was a communicant of St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church where he also volunteered his time with various programs. He was preceded in death by his sister, Agnes Fister.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Betsy M. Scully of Savannah; children, Kathy Ernst Drew; Julie Burch all of Savannah; James E. Scully, Jr. Beth of Richmond Hill; sister, Dorothy Wallace of Lexington, KY; grandchildren, Elizabeth Ernst Davis Jeremy; Kathryn Ernst; Emily Burch; Laura Burch; Gregory Burch, II; Claire Scully; James E. Scully, III and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, October 29, 2007 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 30, 2007 at St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church with Monsignor Francis J. Nelson, Celebrant.
Burial: Catholic Cemetery.
